Live, Work, Play and Pray with a Rootstock Residency

Before you read any further, be aware that life at Rootstock is very dynamic. It’s fluid and unpredictable and there’s lots of energy that flows in and around this land and the people who come and go from here. Yes, it’s peaceful and grounded and yes, it’s also alive and changing. Learning to thrive in ambiguity, feeling into how to identify and communicate your needs with clarity and compassion, navigating how to be alone and together…all of this is fundamental to an experience here. Medicine Retreats dictate the schedule, weather impacts our comfort, events punctuate our months with community and ritual, overnight guests remind us of our greater work in holding space for people to rest and heal and all of this happens all the time… those of us that live here, Residents especially, are ultimately in service to engaging and holding this kaleidoscopic dance to the benefit of ourselves, our guests, the land, each other and the World.

If you’re seeking routine and consistency, if you’re seeking a frictionless path to connection and enlightenment, if you’re seeking architecture that tells you what to do and how to do it….well, this is probably not the best community for you to dip into. This is NOT an ideal place for folks that are not deeply connected to the work that’s already happening here, and it’s not a place to ‘get away from the world’ or your troubles…

If you do, however, feel inspired by Beana’s medicine practice, invigorated about honing your own intuition, hungry to learn how to hold space for yourself and others, curious to find comfort in all the elements and seasons, welcoming of challenges and willing to cultivate curiosity, humility and humor…then we’re getting warm. Add to that a desire to learn the fundamentals of homesteading and Earth-worship as both recreation and a way of life, we’re getting warmer. If you feel called to the potent work of temple tending, service providing, homesteading, and expanding your consciousness, well, we’re hot! and a Rootstock Residency might be a wonderful place for you to come and lend a hand and heart and head.

Residents stay in Rootstock’s “West Village” an off-grid area on the land here about 4 minutes walking from the Community Cabin. Outdoor plumbing. Cooking over fire and propane. Limited or no cell service and no internet. What?!?! No internet? Yes, you read that correctly. Well-appointed, comfortable, cozy accommodations will give you a soft place to land and unplugged time to tap into the Source of your creative spirit. You’ll have access to electricity to charge your devices and time available in the Community Cabin to internet periodically but it will be sparing and you can expect a largely analog experience.

  • Periodic access to the shower, lounge and internet in the Oasis will be provided weekly to ensure your well-being while you’re here.

  • Access to Rootstock’s other infrastructure - the Cosmic Egg oven, Tipi Temple, and sacred spaces - are subject to availability but open to activation by guests here.

Residents can expect to interact with Apprentices, guests here for gatherings, consults visiting, retreat participants, community members and neighbors during their time at Rootstock. Folks interested in upgrading accommodations from the Toad to our gorgeous Tiny House for $1500/month can inquire about availability.

THE SKINNY ON HOW TO EAT HERE

We’ll co-create a meal together as we choose to and residents are welcome to use community meal time to do more meal prep as well for their week ahead. Our community meals are potluck, meaning residents either bring a prepared dish or some ingredients to add to the meal so it’s a co-creative endeavor. Remaining meals will be the responsibility of the resident to provide for. There are local markets nearby, refrigeration/freezer space available and the tools needed to cook in your dwelling or outside over fire. We may elect to schedule more community meals together while you’re here but you can count on one each week of your stay for sure.

GUESTS & VISITORS

Friends and guests are most certainly welcome to visit you while you’re here and asked to 1) either Work-Trade or donate for their nights dwelling in your dwelling 2) supply their own sustenance for non-shared meal days and come prepared to share for community meals 3) register ahead for any events, gatherings or ceremonies they plan to attend while on site and 4) donate $5-$25 for each day they access the Oasis with you.

Residencies are wild, co-creative and very healthy time on the Earth and in community. Challenging and rugged? Maybe. Spontaneous and surprising? Possibly. Nourishing and grounding? Always.

The weather and the World play a significant role in the unfolding of this time. Residents can anticipate some of what will be needed based on the schedule of the month they’ll be here based on the event calendar. Flexibility, kindness, patience and creativity are the core traits any Resident should plan to bring as well as a solid work-ethic, attention to detail, capacity to listen and receive feedback AND - most importantly - a desire to create beauty, comfort and healing.
