Our Teachers
Madeleine Balcom, LCMHC, E-RYT 200 (500 RYT)
Somatic therapist and movement educator, Madeleine, brings poetic metaphor, humor, research, practical tools and ancient wisdom to the classes, workshops, and retreats she offers. She teaches Prana Flow Yoga, a form of vinyasa yoga based on the wisdom of the Shakti (feminine) lineage that includes the subtle/energetic body as well as the physical body. These effective embodiment practices invite students to use breath as a guide to activate the creative spark of pleasure within movement. Madeleine has been teaching yoga for the past 20 years.
Madeleine strives to create a learning environment that builds community and offers a safe space to explore modifications that support people of all bodies and abilities. Her classes will loosen up your muscles and invite your breath and heart to dance with the pulse of life.
Madeleine also practices as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor at Mind Body Counseling LLC in St Johnsbury Vermont. She is registered with the Yoga Alliance as an experienced teacher and has completed 500 hours of Teacher Training as well as continuing her studies in Prana Flow Yoga with Shiva Rea at the Samudra School for Living Yoga.
Cody McDonald
Cody MacDonald is a grounded and experienced licensed massage therapist who recently moved to the NEK from Salt Lake City, Utah. His style is client-focused and works at a depth of pressure the client is comfortable with. He works out tension by focusing on releasing muscle and fascia within the entire myofascial line. Cody’s massages have been described as one of a kind due to his intuitive touch combined with a deep understanding of how the body functions.
Cody is also a carpenter, usually found with his wife Mel in the woodshop or at a job site focusing on intentional design. Cody’s non-work passions include meditation, yoga, mountain biking, climbing and skiing. He is excited to pair with Rootstock to join the community and make lasting connections.
Cody provides both deep tissue and Thai-style massage. His deep tissue massage is a table massage focused on relieving tension by releasing muscles and fascia. The pressure used is deep and sweeping, using pressure within the client's comfort range. His Thai-style massage is a floor massage focused on joint mobility and compressions.
