Inside each of us there’s
a continual autumn.
Our leaves fall and are
blown out over the water,
a crow sits in the blackened limbs and
talks about what’s gone.
There’s a necessary dying, and
then we are reborn breathing again.
- Rumi

Microdosing Earth Medicine: A Seasonal Practice in Whole Living is a profoundly impactful and transformative microdosing protocol that provides individuals looking for healing a well worn path to wander. This three month curriculum empowers anybody looking to microdose psilocybin a guide, framework, and community to do so effectively, respectfully, and authentically.

Join Beana Bern and Juliana Rose Goldstone for this intensive immersion into the Medicine of the West, the Medicine of the Earth, and the Medicine of Yourself and come navigate Fall intentionally.

"In the deep fall
don’t you imagine the leaves think how
comfortable it will be to touch
the earth"

- Mary Oliver

The West is where the sun sets and the shadows get long. Where the darkness slowly becomes our ally and where, if we choose, we can lay it all down, close our eyes,  let the day we just had be enough, and just rest.

The West is where we practice letting go gracefully. And in the larger, seasonal cycles the direction of the West is the season of Autumn. Harvest time. Turning and falling leaves. Lengthening nights and crisper air. We begin to think about putting away the sandals and pulling out the wool socks. As that newly chilled air begins to settle in, all of nature's creatures are busy filling their stores for the coming Winter and taking stock of what Summer’s abundance has granted them. The hillsides are aflame with color as the trees so gracefully begin their yearly process of letting go and surrendering to the life-death-rebirth cycle. We too are invited now to do the same.

As the days begin to creep ever more towards Samhain or All Hallows Eve, we are invited to ponder our relationship with death and impermanence and the greater cycles of life, the older wiser rhythms that pulse deep beneath the noise and our place within it all. This is the descent.

The season of Autumn can sometimes bring with it a certain frantic frenzy as we ponder the size of our woodpiles and make just one more jar of jam or pickles to get us through.  But together, bolstered by the spirit of community and the wise Mushroom Teachers, we can meet the Medicine of the West with intention and reverence. We can bow at the altar of impermanence, rejoice in the harvest of the summer, and allow ourselves to be courted into deep reflection by the coming stillness.

The Medicine of the West asks us to surrender and let go just as we witness the season around us do the same.

Welcome to this honest and tender journey. Welcome, Medicine of the West!

Why Earth Medicine?

The 21st Century on Planet Earth is an intense place to be. The single serving, plastic-wrapped, convenience culture of ‘pop this pill and feel better’ has revealed its limitations and both doctors and their patients are coming into consciousness about the limitations of pharmaceuticals and our Western medical industrial complex. People all over the world are looking for relief and new paradigms for healing and the organic intelligence of psilocybin is among many sacred Earth Medicines that has revealed it’s potential for helping humanity.

Studies are happening all over the world revealing over and over again the efficacy of psilocybin to treat depression, anxiety, addiction, OCD, eating disorders, and more. Though still illegal on a Federal level, legalization and decriminalization efforts for psilocybin are happening rapidly and successfully around the country, with 9 cities decriminalized, one state legalized, and many more bills in legislatures across the US, including in the brave little state of Vermont.

The organic, adaptogenic, and mysterious nature of mushroom medicine is radically safe, non-addictive, has little or no side effects, and is incredibly impactful if worked with in a good way.

"Think of the brain as a hill covered in snow, and thoughts as sleds gliding down that hill. As one sled after another goes down the hill a small number of main trails will appear in the snow. And every time a new sled goes down, it will be drawn into preexisting trails, almost like a magnet. In time it becomes more and more difficult to glide down the hill on any other path or in a different direction. Think of psychedelics as temporarily flattening the snow. The deeply worn trails disappear, and suddenly the sled can go in other directions, exploring new landscapes and, literally, creating new pathways."

-Mendel Kaelen, Dutch postdoc in the Imperial lab

What’s a ‘good way’ to work with Earth Medicine?

While many are making leaps and bounds with the support of entheogens, the unfortunate reality is that some practitioners and protocols are still working with this medicine in a colonizing and extractive way. The promise of ‘effortless healing’ or ‘a miracle cure’ deny the truth of what the mushrooms require and deliver.

Working with Earth Medicine in a ‘good way’ means in a reciprocal, reverent, and honest way. It means giving as much to the medicine as you ask of it. It means learning how to live well off the medicine too.

Microdosing Earth Medicine: A Seasonal Practice in Whole Living is a curriculum that was born out of years of deep, sacred practice with the Mushroom Teachers and a deeply elemental life on this spinning jewel in outer space.

This practice calls us into awareness that this medicine is not here to make us better; instead, it opens a portal that, if we walk through and keep walking, can help bring us back into balance and wholeness.

This one-of-a-kind container is both protocol and practice. Inside you’ll learn how to:

  • Calibrate dosage & frequency and develop your own intuitive microdosing practice

  • Differentiate intention from expectations and learn to discern intuition from external conditioning

  • Work energetically with the mushrooms, elements, and the medicine of Fall

  • Integrate experiences you have on the medicine into your life off the medicine

  • Hold space for community on the medicine path

“We are now fully engaged in the Sixth Major Extinction (“6 X”) on planet Earth. Our biosphere is quickly changing, eroding the life support systems that have allowed humans to ascend. Unless we put into action policies and technologies that can cause a course correction in the very near future, species diversity will continue to plummet, with humans not only being the primary cause, but one of the victims. What can we do? Fungi, particularly mushrooms, offer some powerful, practical solutions, which can be put into practice now.”

- Paul Stamets

Opening ourselves up to the lessons that the mushrooms and the Earth have to teach us requires that we widen the aperture of our awareness to the world around and within us. This three month curriculum is a wonderful way to relearn, remember, reclaim, and revive your deep knowing and capacity to live well.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Microdosing psilocybin is legal in some places, decriminalized in others, and not yet in still others. Depending on your locality the answer may vary. Though there is some legal risk that must be acknowledged, many people are undeterred and willing to accept some low-moderate risk in order to heal. It’s a deeply personal decision and you should trust your judgement on whether you feel up to this sacred work.

  • As you’ll learn inside the course, the more you give to this practice the more you will receive from it. That said, we expect that students will commit to participating in at least 2 of the 4 monthly 90min zooms for the full duration of the course and will devote another 5-20min daily for the practice.

  • If you decide to join the day long Retreat at Rootstock you will be responsible for travel expenses to/from the hill as well as any accommodations you may book around that gathering. If you’d like to drop in one-on-one with Beana for a 30 or 60min coaching call, those calls are not included in the price of the course and will need to be paid for separately. Sourcing of the medicine for this course is something you will also be responsible for and, inside the course, we can offer coaching on ethical procurement and/or self-cultivation.

  • The self-guided curriculum of the microdosing protocol is hosted on a platform called Podia. You’ll receive a coupon when you enroll that will grant you access to the course. The weekly Transmissions and Coaching calls will happen in Zoom and you’ll be provided with a link to access those upon enrollment. Students will also be invited into a private Signal chat where we’ll have safe space to connect outside of regular course time.

  • $2,222/person for the guided 3 month journey, ~$160 for supplies depending on your source or farmer, plus travel expenses to and from Rootstock for the retreat bring the total investment for this 3 month experience to approximately $2,500.

The value of the day long elemental retreat alone is $1,111, the deep access to Beana is substantial as well, and the full value of these collected offers is over $4,000.

  • Once enrolled in the course, no refunds will be provided. If, after some time, you determine that this curriculum is not for you, you will retain lifetime access to the course material to revisit at another time if needed.

Take care to check your resolve, calendar, and resources to ensure your readiness and commitment to this course prior to enrolling.

  • Once inside the course, students will be informed about the Spring/Summer retreat schedule before the greater Rootstock waitlist. Students will have a window of time to book if they desire. Booking of a Medicine Retreat is not included in the price of this course and will need to registered for and paid for separately.
